Remember when I posted about the excessive rain that my area received last spring that effectively ruined over half of my potatoes that I planted in my Victory Garden?
Well, April 2025 said, “hold my beer” to April 2024!
April Rainfall: 2000-2025

We received 5.61″ in April according to National Weather Service, surpassing last April’s amount of 5.09″. This April’s rainfall has only been surpassed in the past 25 years by the rainfall in April of 2011, which received 6.09″.
Flash Flood
Also, a former high school classmate and football teammate who owns Ohio Wood Burner Ltd. published a YouTube video showing how the excessive rain at his property destroyed a lot of his inventory.
He lives just a few miles north of me but his area got a flash flood. I think he said his area got 3.50″ to 4.00″ in a short period, and he has a creek nearby that might have made things worse for his wood inventory lot. My area didn’t get the flash flood, but still got a lot of rain.
International Firewood Expo 2025
By the way, Mr. Nay is organizing the International Firewood Expo 2025 right here in Trumbull County this week at the Fairgrounds. Be sure to stop by tomorrow (May 2nd) or Saturday, May 3rd and say hello and check out all the high quality machinery.

My Garden Plans 2025
I already planned to scale back the size of my garden this year, because my little plot doesn’t have good drainage. The piece of land used to be a farm and my section had irrigation channels, so it’s really low elevation and when it rains even moderately heavy, half of my garden plot gets saturated. Most of the plants can’t survive too many heavy rains.
Also, last week I saw my neighbor’s ground hog, which is fairly big. So, I’ll need to get a catch-and-release cage or something. I really don’t want to use the Ol’ Ruger .22 on the varmint, but if I’m forced to do so, then I’ll make a good meal of it.
Anwyway, I’ll provide an update on the garden this summer. I’m thinking it will be mostly herbs and tomatoes, though.
