Beach Bash at Mosquito Lake State Park

Quality time at the 2nd Beach Bash at Mosquito Lake State Park in Trumbull County, Ohio.

A couple of days ago, I mentioned on social media that this weekend in my area in Trumbull County, Ohio would be eventful. The annual Italian Festival in Warren lasted through Sunday. And, as I wrote, the place to be on Saturday would be Mosquito Lake State Park.

Mosquito Lake All-Day Events

The all-day events at Mosquito Lake included these:

  1. The 2nd Annual Mosquito Dam Race (1-mile and 5-mile): 8:00 am
  2. Archery and BB Gun First Shot Program: 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
  3. Mosquito Lake Beach Bash: 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  4. Mosquito Lake Movie Night: 9:00 pm until about 11:00 pm

Beach Bash

My lady1Actually, my “old lady.” I may say this because she’s 16 years my junior. and I did go to the Beach Bash to listen to live music, but we only stayed there until about 7:30 pm. The movie, which didn’t start until 9:00 pm, was past our bedtime, frankly.

The local band, “Before Closing,”2I don’t think the band has much of an Internet presence. Let me know, otherwise. is apparently a new group comprised of several relatively young guys. Interestingly, they seemed to play a variation of jazz and shoe-gaze jam. Those style of songs were without vocals and sounded like an instrumental Pink Floyd.

I brought a work-related book with me, so this music made it easier to focus and read a few pages. They also mixed it up with a variety of cover songs. The lead singer performed well, especially covering Pink Floyd’s “Time.” My favorite song that they performed while I was there was Alice in Chains’ “Rotten Apple.”

Coincidentally, I had just posted a song by AIC in my prior post about my Victory Garden.

Best Beach Bash Cover Song: “Rotten Apple”

Actually, “Rotten Apple” performed by Before Closing sounded like a mix of (1) the actual studio version and (2) a shortened unplugged rendition of the song here:

Alice in Chains | “Rotten Apple” Unplugged Rehearsal | 1994

Although the song “follows the progression of a young person’s developing drug habit and subsequent fall into addiction,” per Genius Lyrics, I can relate to it from my own fall from grace over the past four or five years from actually being in relatively good physical fitness for my entire life.

"Rotten Apple"
I'm crawlin' back to start

As such, my interpretation of this line is shared by some others. Essentially, one needs to get back to their better state. And, if it requires a struggle whereby one needs to “crawl back to start,” then so be it: crawl back. That’s what I have been doing since late May of this year: crawlin’ back.

It ain’t easy, that’s for sure.

Closing Words

How is your summer going? Have you been to a beach; taken in some live, local music? Gone for a walk/hike/jog/ride in a park?

As for me, I’m looking forward to more fun events at Mosquito Lake and attending one or more of these:
